Warm Weather Getaway

Warm Weather Getaway

Cream dress
flat sandals
Canvas tote bag
jewelry
fedora hat

Okay, let's pretend shall we?!  We're just returning from an afternoon by the pool sipping all things fruity and delicious.  Time to get showered up, throw on a fun little chevron sundress and do some shopping or sight seeing in the quaint village. How about a walk down the beach to the local restaurant for some appetizers or ice cream. Oh wait, the best one yet, we're hopping in the jeep to cruise along the coastline with our hair blowing in the wind (just a little because of our cool fedora) and the sun in our face.

And.......just like that we're back to reality.  Well, it was nice while it lasted.  I hope you actually are heading off to some place warm where you can make use of this adorable outfit!  If not, stay warm and daydream about it instead, like me!

Mid Winter Doldrums

Mid Winter Neutrals

fair isle cardigan
check shirt
cropped pants
brown knee high boots
shoes
bag

Boy, this time of winter it can be tough to get dressed.  Are you beginning to get tired of all the winter wear in your closet like I am?  I feel like I've worn it all a hundred times already and am sick of it.  That's when you need to get creative and think about wearing pieces differently, to help you get through the rest of this winter season.  Take for example this fair aisle cardigan.  Instead of pairing it with a white button down wear a different patterned shirt, still in the same color family, to spice it up.  Wear a casual gray pant instead of blue jeans. Pair them with brown boots for winter and loafers for spring.  Don't forget to change up your accessories as well, sometimes it's the little things that can make a whole outfit feel new again.

Do you need some help thinking outside of the box in your closet?  Pop me an email (kate@steenwykbuilders.com), I'd be glad to help you get through the winter closet doldrums!

Hip Grandma

Hip Grandma

cowl neck top
jacket
boot cut jeans
flat
shopping bag

I was recently shopping with a client, who is a hip, young grandma who wanted to dress like one. We had a blast, and found these amazing jeans for her at Talbots, that were too great not to share! The pockets are great, the waist is great, and the fit was amazing.  If you're struggling to find an age appropriate jean this could be the one for you!

My more mature clients (like how I worded that) tend to fall into two categories - always cold, or always hot.  If you're always cold, go ahead and layer two sweaters like I've shown here, very hip. If you're always cold go for a shell or sheath underneath to dress it up a bit.  Leopard flats are a great way to throw in a little fun into your wardrobe, and still not embarass your children or grandchildren. =)

Snow Day

Snow Day

cowlneck sweater
slimming legging
short heels
shoulder bag
jewelry
Earrings

Brrrr!  It's a winter wonderland here in West Michigan and we're all looking for something warm, and warmer to wear!  Normally I'm not a fan of ponchos and discourage my clients from purchasing them, because they don't give your body any shape and make you look bigger than what you really are.  However, this cute sweater from Loft seems to work for me.  I think it's the asymmetric cut and diagonal stripes, as well as the fine knit that won't add bulk which make it a winner in my fashion play book. Make it a good one, friends!

Chevron Dress

Chevron Dress

Chevron dress
camel coat
black stocking
leather boots
mini handbag
Statement necklace

Happy Thursday, ladies!  My computer came down with a virus over the weekend and I just finally got it back, so my apologies for not posting earlier this week.  Chevron continues to be a hot trend, so about going full out in an adorable dress?  With a stand out piece like this one, I recommend keeping everything else relatively streamlined, simple and classic.  You don't want to look like you're trying too hard.

Leather & Plaid

Friday Night Out

plaid shirt
Leather jacket
skinny jeans
high heels
knitted scarve

TGIF, ladies!  If you're headed out for pizza and a movie here's the perfect look for you. It doesn't get much more casual and cook then a leather jacket and plaid shirt.

I hope you do have something fun planned this January weekend.  This time of the year you have to make your own fun to get through the winter months, especially when there's no snow, as is the case where I live in Michigan. Whatever it is, whether going out or staying in, enjoy it in style, my friends!

Ponte Pants

New Year's Eve

long sleeve button down shirt
Slim pants
black stone necklace
Riding Boot

Well, it's time to get back into the swing of things, girls!.  The holidays are over, and hopefully so are all the sick bugs that were making their way through my family.  Everyone is healthy, back to school, and ready for whatever 2013 has in store.  I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's as well.

Today's post features a pair of ponte pants, have you given them a try yet?  So comfy, oh my word.  They're like a legging, but have a bit more structure and coverage, similar to a skinny jean.  I recently picked up a pair at Kohl's and love 'em.  You can find them in all price points - Target (online) to Talbots. I love how you can dress them up as in this post, or wear them with a tunic or sweatshirt.  If you have a pair, how do you wear them?
